Master's Degree in Economics of Tourism: Monitoring and Evaluation
Academic year 2024-25
If you started before the 2024-25 academic year, please see the corresponding version or the curriculum adaptation process.
Recommended Admission Profile
The master’s programme is mainly aimed at students who have taken official undergraduate degrees in tourism, economics, business administration or their international equivalents.
Nevertheless, experience garnered from previous programme editions has shown students from other disciplines have the necessary skills to successfully complete the programme. Specifically, engineering, mathematics and environmental science graduates have fared well in the past.
Entry
Students interested in applying for a spot on the programme must submit their pre-registration application within the deadline stated on the website, and in accordance with the procedure for each academic year, as set by the UIB Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CEP).
The CEP will verify whether applicants fulfil the requirements for admission to the programme and, subsequently, submit the application to the programme coordinators to consider and decide on admission.
Finally, the CEP will publish the list of admitted students and provide the enrolment dates.
This procedure is governed by Regulatory Agreement of 23rd March 2022 that governs Entry and Admission to Official Master’s Programmes, published in the extraordinary issue of FOU no. 534 of 31st March 2022 (https://seu.uib.cat/fou/acord/14423/), implementing Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28th September that sets out the Organisation of Higher Education Programmes and the Quality Assurance Procedure.
Admission
The master's programme leadership will be responsible for student admissions to the programme, with the support of the academic committee.
Admission Requirements
English Language Accreditation
As stated, English is the language of instruction on the programme. In this sense, and so as to ensure proper development of academic activities, applicants must accredit a B2 level of English. This level shall be deemed accredited where candidates fulfil one of the following conditions:
- Submitting certificates or diplomas equivalent to a B2 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002)
- Having taken university courses in the stated language
- Having taken high school studies in the stated language
- Having passed an interview with the body responsible for admission to the programme.
Spanish Language Level Accreditation
In turn, the Academic Committee for the Master’s Programme shall verify students have a level of Spanish equivalent to B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages where they wish to take any elective subject taught in this language. Nonetheless, this shall not be an admission requirement for the programme since there are sufficient available subjects on the programme taught in English.
Admission Criteria
The academic committee shall assess submitted documents in line with the following criteria:
- Average mark from the academic record/transcript granting admission to the programme (0 to 5 points)
- Suitability of prior training with regard to subject content from the programme (0 to 3 points)
- Candidate cover letter (0 to 1 point)
- Relevant professional experience (0 to 1 point).
The academic committee shall consider the suitability of prior training with regard to admitting students with qualifications not related to tourism, economics, business administration or their international equivalents.
