Master's Degree in Environmental Radiation Protection

Academic year 2025-26

Recommended Admission Profile

The recommended entry profile is generally graduates in science or engineering disciplines (holding Spanish degrees or equivalent overseas qualifications). In this way, new students will better adapt to the proposed curriculum and ensure suitable progression in their studies.

Specifically, and considering both personal and academic skills, the ideal candidate profile would be a graduate from the following disciplines: physics, chemistry, engineering, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, environmental sciences and marine sciences.

Entry

Students interested in applying for a spot on the programme must submit their pre-registration application within the deadline stated on the website, and in accordance with the procedure for each academic year, as set by the UIB Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CEP).

The CEP will verify whether applicants fulfil the requirements for admission to the programme and, subsequently, submit the application to the programme coordinators to consider and decide on admission.

Finally, the CEP will publish the list of admitted students and provide the enrolment dates.

This procedure is governed by Regulatory Agreement of 23rd March 2022 that governs Entry and Admission to Official Master’s Programmes, published in the extraordinary issue of FOU no. 534 of 31st March 2022 (https://seu.uib.cat/fou/acord/14423/), implementing Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28th September that sets out the Organisation of Higher Education Programmes and the Quality Assurance Procedure.

Admission

The Master's Degree in Environmental Radiation Protection has 21 spots available for new students. Since seven universities take part in the programme, each one will offer three spots. Any spots not filled at a university may be offered by the other participating institutions until all 21 spots are filled for the academic year.

The Academic Committee for the Master's Programme will manage candidate admissions. The committee comprises the academic coordinators for the programme, appointed by each participating university from amongst programme lecturers.

Admission Requirements

Accreditation in the Programme's Languages of Instruction: Spanish and English

The programme's languages of instruction are Spanish and English. In this sense, and in order to ensure academic activities run smoothly, non-native students must at least have an accredited level equivalent to B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002) from the European Union Council.

B2-level Spanish and English will be deemed accredited for candidates who fulfil any of the following conditions:

  1. Submitting certificates or diplomas equivalent to a B2 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002)
  2. Having taken university courses in the stated language
  3. Having taken high school studies in the stated language
  4. Having passed an interview with the master's coordinators.

A B2 level of English will also be deemed accredited where students have an undergraduate degree whose award required an accredited B2 level of English or equivalent.

Admission Criteria

The following criteria shall be considered in terms of assessing the merits of applicants wishing to be admitted to the master's programme:

  1. Average mark from the academic record/transcript for studies granting admission to the programme
  2. Professional experience in the field of environmental radiation protection (e.g. public or private organisations for research, engineering, service provision and radiation protection units). The maximum score will be awarded for two years of experience.

To ensure correct assessment, candidates must submit the required and duly accredited documentation, in accordance with what is set by the admissions body.

Applicants' merits shall be assessed as per the following weighting:

  1. Average mark from their academic record/transcript (75%)
  2. Professional experience in the field (15%).

After assessing candidates' merits, applications will be ordered by considering the qualifications set out in the recommended entry profile as follows: physics, chemistry, engineering, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, environmental sciences and marine sciences.

Where there is a tie between candidates after this assessment, the candidates will be prioritised by the date they pre-registered for the programme.

After being admitted, students will contact their corresponding tutor and analyse the most suitable pathway for practical classes, in accordance with their curriculum and interests, and in consideration of current scheduling.
