Master's Degree in Neuroscience

Academic year 2025-26

Please see the information in the new curriculum for this master's programme starting in the 2025-26 academic year.
If you started before the 2025-26 academic year, please see the corresponding version or the curriculum adaptation process.

Recommended Admission Profile

A specific list of academic qualities has been outlined with regard to the most suitable new entry profiles in order to ensure new students are able to adapt and make the most of the programme content:

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, human biology, biotechnology, psychology, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, nursing or physiotherapy.

They must possess core knowledge about the functioning and structure of the nervous system in order to be able to follow the subjects on the programme. In turn, they must have passed subjects linked to core knowledge about the structure and function of the nervous system, as well as the foundations underpinning behavioural studies.

Entry

Students interested in applying for a spot on the programme must submit their pre-registration application within the deadline stated on the website, and in accordance with the procedure for each academic year, as set by the UIB Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CEP).

The CEP will verify whether applicants fulfil the requirements for admission to the programme and, subsequently, submit the application to the programme coordinators to consider and decide on admission.

Finally, the CEP will publish the list of admitted students and provide the enrolment dates.

This procedure is governed by Regulatory Agreement of 23rd March 2022 that governs Entry and Admission to Official Master’s Programmes, published in the extraordinary issue of FOU no. 534 of 31st March 2022 (https://seu.uib.cat/fou/acord/14423/), implementing Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28th September that sets out the Organisation of Higher Education Programmes and the Quality Assurance Procedure.

Accreditation in the Programme's Languages of Instruction

The programme's languages of instruction are Spanish, Catalan and English. Spanish and Catalan are co-official languages in the Balearic Islands. Lecturers may teach their classes in either language.

In this sense, students must at least have an accredited level equivalent to B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002) from the European Union Council, enabling them to follow lectures. This level will be deemed accredited for candidates who fulfil any of the following conditions:

Admission Criteria

In addition to the general entry requirements for master's programmes, the Master's Degree in Neuroscience has established certain internal admission criteria:

  • (85%) - Average mark from the academic record/transcript for studies granting admission to the programme. In this instance, particular consideration will be given to previous core training in content linked to the structure and function of the nervous system. This will ensure students are able to effectively follow the programme content. The following order of priority shall apply:
    1. An undergraduate degree in biology, biochemistry, human biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine or psychology
    2. Nursing or physiotherapy
    3. Other degrees.
  • (15%) - Applicants will be awarded up to 10 points for other merits as per the following criteria: a double degree in one of the aforementioned qualifications (3 points); having a master's degree in biomedicine (4 points); experience in lab work (1 point); being certified to work with lab animals (1 point) and IT skills (1 point).

The Master's Degree in Neuroscience Coordination Team will assess applicants' merits by reviewing their submitted documents and, where required, through a personal interview.
