Adaptation process

The Master’s Degree in Law was verified on 28th December 2012, and it was first introduced in the 2012-13 academic year.

Since Royal Decree 64/2023 of 8th February that approves the Regulation of Act 34/2006 of 30th October on access to the legal profession is now effective, Spanish universities need to request programme curricula be amended. This includes incorporating skills and content linked to legal practice. This new version of the curriculum comes into effect in the 2023-24 academic year and involves a change in the master’s name. From now on, it will be known as the Master’s Degree in Legal Practice.

Student Admission

New students on the programme will be admitted on the new version of the curriculum from the 2023-24 academic year.

Enrolment for Returning Students

Students on the Master’s Degree in Law will have one academic year (2023-24) to pass all necessary subjects to be awarded the degree, in accordance with the requirements set out in the curriculum.

In exceptional cases, students who have reached the limit of enrolments for a subject may request a last enrolment (without taking classes) in the following year. This enrolment must be authorised by the relevant Pro-Vice-Chancellor for teaching, who will make a decision after consulting with the programme coordinator.

This notwithstanding, students must be aware that failing to complete the master’s in the 2022-23 academic year may have professional implications.

  1. In compliance with transitional provision two in RD 64/2023, students on the Master’s Degree in Law must sit professional certification tests organised in accordance with the system prior to RD 64/2023.
After consulting the Ministry of Justice on planned certification calls, the UIB has been informed that a second legal practice certification call is planned after summer 2023. Nonetheless, no exact date has yet been set.
  2. Therefore, although students may take pending subject in the 2023-24 academic year, they should be aware that the final certification test may be held before the end of the 2023-24 academic year. In light of this, the Centre for Postgraduate Studies recommends students pass all their subjects on the Master’s Degree in Law in the 2022-23 academic year. If this is not possible, please contact the degree management team as soon as possible to discuss alternative solutions.

The enrolment deadlines for each academic year will be published on the Centre for Postgraduate Studies website.
