New student profile and admission criteria

The Masters in Neuroscience is aimed primarily at:

  • Present degree graduates in Biology, Medicine and Surgery, Psychology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Chemistry and Veterinary Science.
  • Graduate on any of the aforementioned degrees and Physiotherapy, Nursing and Nutrition.
  • Present diploma graduates in Physiotherapy, Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics.

The Master’s Study Committee may also admit graduates from other similar scientific disciplines if it considers they have acquired sufficient knowledge level to follow the Masters in the same conditions, as well as overseas students with a validated title or equivalent. Students holding a title in a non-scientific branch may present pre-enrolment for the Masters and the Study Committee will assess presented proposals.

Within the fixed period, candidates must present pre-enrolment via computer or in person to those responsible for postgraduate administrative services. Students holding degrees from universities other than the UIB must include in their application authenticated photocopies of the relevant documents concerning their degree as well as an academic certification from the University issuing that degree. The Committee will assess applications in accordance with admission profiles and prior established education requisites. If the number of pre-enrolments surpasses the maximum registration number, the Committee will assess the following points: academia transcript, scientific and professional records and other academic merits relating to the title (specific courses relating to neurosciences, knowledge of English...).

Total or partial validation of prior learning material will be assessed by the Coordination Committee once the necessary documentation is provided by students.

Academic and professional goals

The postgraduate in Neuroscience intends to provide solid training in theoretical-practical knowledge and the nervous system cell, molecular, structural, physiological, pharmacology, clinical and behaviour bases. This knowledge is typically acquired partially or across the different titles included in the area of Health Sciences. The postgraduate in Neuroscience provides the possibility to integrate and update all this knowledge from a wide, multidisciplinary perspective.

At the same time, it intends to provide Medicine, Biology, Psychology and general Health professionals with the necessary skills for facing illnesses and disorders relating to the nervous system and for handling techniques relating to its study.

The aims of the Masters in Neuroscience are as follows:

  • Uncovering the foundations to the different fields in neuroscience: anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, cellular and molecular biology, psychology...
  • Understanding and handling the diverse experimental and registration techniques for exploring the nervous system.
  • Providing an integrated theoretical and practical base aimed at professionals interested in in-depth study of the neuroscience field, from physiopathological to clinical mechanisms.
  • Providing an articulated, systematic and gradual knowledge update for diagnosis and treatment biological bases for nervous system disorders from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Structure of the study programme

The course structure can be found in the publication of BOE No. 262 of October 29, 2010 - res. 16533 [es] and is available in the website - section "Subjects" of this master's degree.

The Masters in Neuroscience may be taken in one academic year, following 60 credits from amongst the credits offered. Students who have to take 60 credits to obtain the Masters must register on the obligatory courses and some electives until reaching 60 credits, taking into account that part of them will be completed with the practicum and Final Masters project.

At the beginning of the academic course, the student who has registered for the Final Master Project (I or II) should choose a subject of investigation between the lines of investigation proposed by the professors of the Master. Their selection must be communicated to the commission of studies of the Master. Eventually, the Commission approves the proposal and will assign a director or a tutor. Then, the student must apply for the corresponding inscription in the administrative services. At the end of the second semester, after having finished Final Master Project and after having redacted the corresponding memory, it will be submitted to evaluation by the Commission purposed by the direction of the Masters. The presentation and defence of the memory will be performed only when the student has approved the rest of credits of the degree.

Final Exam

Evaluation criteria and elements for each subject are set out in the corresponding subject technical file.
