Recommended Admission Profile
Ideally, applicants to the Master's Degree in Advanced Physics and Applied Mathematics will be research-focused and have previously taken an undergraduate degree in physics or mathematics, or a double degree in physics and mathematics.
Nevertheless, and given the wide range of topics covered on the programme, candidates with other scientific and technical degrees may also apply, such as engineering, environmental science, oceanography, etc.
Entry
Students interested in applying for a spot on the programme must submit their pre-registration application within the deadline stated on the website, and in accordance with the procedure for each academic year, as set by the UIB Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CEP).
The CEP will verify whether applicants fulfil the requirements for admission to the programme and, subsequently, submit the application to the programme coordinators to consider and decide on admission.
Finally, the CEP will publish the list of admitted students and provide the enrolment dates.
This procedure is governed by Regulatory Agreement of 23rd March 2022 that governs Entry and Admission to Official Master’s Programmes, published in the extraordinary issue of FOU no. 534 of 31st March 2022 (https://seu.uib.cat/fou/acord/14423/), implementing Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28th September that sets out the Organisation of Higher Education Programmes and the Quality Assurance Procedure.

Admission Requirements
Accreditation in the Programme's Languages of Instruction
The master's programme is taught in English. In this sense, and so as to ensure proper development of academic activities, applicants who are not native speakers of English must accredit a B2 level in this language. In accordance with Executive Agreement 12476 of 10th October 2017 that amends Executive Agreement 10990/2014 of 15th April that approves the Regulations on English Language Levels for Undergraduate Programmes, applicants must fulfil one of the following requirements to accredit their English level:
- Submitting certificates or diplomas equivalent to a B2 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, 2002)
- Having taken university courses in the stated language
- Having taken high school studies in the stated language
- Having passed an interview with the master's coordinators.
A B2 level will also be deemed accredited where applicants' undergraduate degrees required them to have an accredited B2 level of English or higher.
Admission Criteria
In any event, the Academic Committee for the Master's Programme shall decide on applicant admissions on behalf of the Board of Studies. Firstly, candidates will be ordered by the relevance of their admission qualification with regard to the recommended entry profile. In addition to the suitability of the admission qualification, the following merit scores will be considered:
- Average mark from the academic record/transcript for studies granting admission to the programme on a scale of 0–10
- Professional experience in the field of science and technology. The following scores will be awarded per month of accredited experience: 0.10 per month up to a maximum of 2.4 points (equivalent to two years' experience)
- A mission statement setting out candidates' personal motivation and the reasons behind their application for the master's programme. This will be assessed on a scale of 0–10 in accordance with the relevance regarding the goals on the master's programme.
The scores for the academic record/transcript and professional experience will have a joint weight of 70% in the final score. In turn, the mission statement will be worth 30%.
Candidates must submit the required and, where applicable, duly accredited documents, in accordance with what is set by the admissions body.
