Additional information about price
The main aim of the Master’s Degree in Legal Practice is to provide graduates in law with the necessary tools and resources to train them in the skills, attitudes and core practical knowledge enabling them to start practising law effectively, responsibly, safely and ethically. Moreover, it will also focus on assessable activities that will help them prepare for the professional certification exam to work as lawyers and barristers.
The programme has been designed in collaboration with the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the Balearic Islands Bar Association (ICPIB).
What skills will you acquire?
Students will be able to solve specific practical issues relating to professional ethics, the professional statute of legal practitioners and client defence strategies (including decisions on available court and out-of-court options). They will know how to write basic litigation briefs and organise facts and legal arguments; prepare simple cross-examinations, and use other probative approaches, especially expert reports and documents. Students will be able to solve practical questions and take strategic procedural decisions on behalf of their clients that require updated specialised knowledge.
With regard to jurisdictional areas, students will know how to design a client defence strategy for a complex practical case, write the necessary briefs for all proceedings, use evidence, draft the necessary legal arguments (to do this, they will need to use the sources of law) and defend them in court. In turn, students will gain confidence in their skills through placements at professional legal practices. They will learn how to organise and hold work and team meetings, deal with clients and efficiently allot their working time. Moreover, students will get to know the work and skills of other legal roles and their usefulness for professional legal practice.
What career opportunities will you have?
Students who pass this programme (as well as the professional certification examination) will then be able to professionally practise law. Moreover, the Master's in Legal Practice also grants access to PhD programmes.
