Academic year 2018-19 | 60 credits | 25 places

What is it?

Gender studies, and in particular those related to the planning and implementation of policies that focus on equality and gender-based violence prevention in various social settings, are highly sought after both nationally and internationally.

The state-recognized Master’s degree programme in equality and gender-based violence prevention policies offers postgraduate-level education and training in matters regarding policies that focus on equality and the prevention of violence against women within the appropriate national legal framework, as the Law on comprehensive protective measures against gender-based violence and the Organic Law on the equality of men and women establishes not only the need for trained professionals in the field of equality and the prevention of violence against women, but also the need to develop new professional profiles or strengthen the presence of those that already exist, such as agents for equal opportunities that can carry out the various tasks described in these laws.

Thus, the training and education offered responds to a strategic opportunity related to the social climate and the requirements for future professionals, all within the current legislative framework. In this way the programme’s curriculum is designed for students to acquire an advanced level of training regarding professional specialization in equality and gender-based violence policies.

What will you learn?

The main objective of this degree programme is to offer an education and training that allows future graduates to work developing policies related to equality and/or gender-based violence under the current regulatory framework (which is defined in large part by the Law on comprehensive protective measures against gender-based violence and the Law on the equality of men and women) by providing students with the conceptual and methodological tools needed to do so. Experts in equality policies are professionals who design, direct, coordinate, give support to, implement, manage, and assess action plans, programmes, projects, and campaigns related to equal opportunities in various professional fields and settings. Experts in gender-based violence prevention are professionals who design, direct, coordinate, give support to, implement, manage, and assess the elimination of gender-based violence in various professional fields and settings. This degree programme trains professionals who are experts in carrying out these kinds of tasks.

What will you be able to do once you finish?

This Master’s programme might interest the following graduates or future graduates: those from the health and behavioural sciences (psychology, nursing, medicine, etc.), those from the social and legal sciences (sociology, social work), those from educational sciences (primary school teaching, secondary school teaching, educational psychology, social education, etc.), or those from the humanities (philosophy, history, philology, etc.).

High-quality official study

This process is known as verification, and it serves to ensure that education programmes are properly designed to provide the competencies and reach the learning goals around which the programmes are built. In the results you can find reports on official study programmes.

The European Higher Education Area requires that there be a system in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes .

The Master's programme is subject to constant assessment and improvement processes that guarantee that it maintains a certain level of prestige and renown in Europe. You can see the results of the assessment processes in the section on quality.
