Learning Goals
The Master’s Degree in Social Work in Health Care is a joint programme leading to the award of an official university master’s qualification from the following institutions:
- University of Valencia, as the coordinating institution
- University of Alicante
- University of Barcelona
- University of Girona
- University of the Balearic Islands
- University of Lleida
- University of Murcia
- Rovira i Virgili University
The programme has a single curriculum approved jointly by all participating universities. The learning goals are as follows:
- Expanding health care knowledge from a biopsychosocial perspective
- Being aware of health indicators for populations in different autonomous regions in Spain
- Understanding epidemiology and its inherent concepts
- Broadening knowledge about public health policies and models in different autonomous regions in Spain
- Understanding social work management and quality systems in health care
- Widening knowledge on health system structure and operation
- Delving into the overarching ethical principles for social interventions in health care settings, as well as the concepts of bioethics, ethical practice, dignity, autonomy and informed consent
- Extending knowledge on community health, citizen participation and health prevention
- Exploring knowledge on the historical background, purpose and interventions in social work for health care
- Developing knowledge on different social work areas in health care, as well as professional duties
- Examining different population groups supported by social work in health care
- Shoring up knowledge on different social work methods, models and techniques in health care settings
- Boosting knowledge on different social work diagnosis techniques and their application to health care
- Strengthening knowledge on inter- and multidisciplinary teamwork
- Increasing knowledge on different social work research methods in health care settings
- Fostering research as a tool for knowledge and development in social work for health care, as a way to pursue PhD studies.
