In accordance with article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 on the Regulation of Official University Studies, later modified by Royal Decree 861/2010, admission to officially recognized Master’s programmes requires that admittees be in possession of an official Spanish university diploma or a diploma issued by another higher educational institution from another State within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that allows for holders of the diploma to access Master’s programmes in the country in which it was issued. Diplomas from other foreign education systems outside of the EHEA will also allow for holders to access Master’s programmes without the need to have the diploma officially validated as long as it is verified by the university that the holder’s previous studies accredit that he/she has a level of education equivalent to a corresponding officially recognized Spanish degree programme and the diploma allows for holders to access Master’s programmes in the country in which it was issued.
Following the guidelines in Order CIN/311/2009, access to the Master’s programme that allows for graduates to carry out professions as Industrial Engineers will be granted to those who have already acquired the competencies described in section 3 of the Ministerial Order CIN/351/2009 that lays out the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that allow for holders to carry out the profession of Industrial Technical Engineer, and whose education is in line with that which is established in section 5 of the previously mentioned Ministerial Order (CIN/351/2009).
Additionally, those holding undergraduate degrees that accredit that they have completed the introductory coursework and the common coursework in the appropriate field will be granted access to the Master’s programme, even though the previous studies may not include the entire set of specific technology-related coursework, and as long as 48 of the credits offered in the set of previously mentioned coursework in the degree programme are tied to the practice of the Industrial Technical Engineer profession, in accordance with the aforementioned Ministerial Order.
Also able to access this Master’s programme are those who are in possession of any undergraduate degree, although in this case there is a set of previous complementary education and training that is necessary.
All that is previously stated is without prejudice to that which is established in article 17.2 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 which refers to the possibility for a university to include prior education requirements in any discipline, or to the fourth additional provision of the Royal Decree concerning the particular entry requirements for those who hold official university degrees from study programmes that existed before the implementation of Royal Decree 1319/2007, as is the case for Technical Engineers, for example.
In the case that the demand exceeds the offer, students will be selected based on their CVs. Consideration will be given to the following elements:
·The appropriateness of the degree that allows access to the Master’s programme (weight: 50%).
·Academic transcripts (weight: 20%)
·Professional experience in the field of industrial engineering (weight: 20%)
·Professional or academic letters of recommendation to the Master’s programme (weight: 10%)
Along with the application, students requesting admission to the Master’s programme must turn in the following:
·A certificate that provides information about the courses that were taken during the applicant’s undergraduate studies. It should include the marks that were obtained in each course and the number of exam sittings that were needed to pass.
·Professional or academic letters of recommendation.
After considering the documentation that is provided, the Master’s Studies Committee will evaluate the applications based on the established requirements and the previously mentioned admission criteria.
Students holding a Master’s degree in industrial engineering can apply to further postgraduate study programmes that award doctorate degrees, at any university. More specifically, they can request admission in the electronic engineering doctorate programme or the information and communication technologies doctorate programme offered by the University of the Balearic Islands.
This Master’s degree enables graduates to carry out the regulated profession of industrial engineer (Ministerial Order CIN/311/2009).
