What is it?

The officially recognized Master’s degree programme in philosophy is a postgraduate programme that is focused on providing students with an advanced education in all of the basic areas of philosophy studies: history of philosophy, theoretical philosophy, practical philosophy, and the philosophy of science. In line with both Spanish and European educational frameworks, this degree programme aims to provide students with the competencies necessary to be able to fully carry out research work on their own, continue their studies, and improve their working environment. The programme also offers students with an advanced up-to-date education in the knowledge areas that make up the coursework. This programme’s curriculum was designed to offer the greatest level of efficiency with respect to students’ time and effort in such a way that the learning process remains clear and coherent and the education is complete and specialized.

What will you learn?

The Master’s degree programme in philosophy offers an education that not only provides graduates with advanced knowledge in the main areas of philosophy (history of philosophy, theoretical philosophy, practical philosophy, philosophy of science) but also with the competencies and abilities that will allow them to plan and carry out self-guided research or continued studies throughout their lives. The various subjects included in the Master’s programme have been carefully selected to ensure that students learn about the systems and basic functioning of applied academic research (research techniques and the expression of information, proving hypotheses and confirming knowledge, searching for information and data, communication and transfer of knowledge, planning and carrying out research, and problem solving throughout the process). This degree will also develop students’ critical thinking abilities and their capability to work both individually and as part of a team. Thus, graduates will be able to adapt to various settings and perform their duties in the most efficient way possible.

What will you be able to do once you finish?

The main objective of the Master’s degree programme in philosophy is to focus on research, thus the degree programme enables students to carry out tasks individually and in a team as well as assimilating them into Spanish and European R&D systems. The degree enables graduates to participate in doctorate programmes and provides students with the competencies and abilities that are necessary for implementing modern-day public and private sector projects.

High-quality official study

Legislation requires that official Spanish degree programmes receive a positive assessment from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA, by its Spanish acronym). This process is known as verification, and it serves to ensure that education programmes are properly designed to provide the competencies and reach the learning goals around which the programmes are built. In the results you can find reports on official study programmes.

The European Higher Education Area requires that there be a system in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes .

The Master's programme is subject to constant assessment and improvement processes that guarantee that it maintains a certain level of prestige and renown in Europe. You can see the results of the assessment processes in the section on quality.
