Title Description

Candidate profile and admission requirements

The most appropriated entry profile for the Master degree is a bachelor degree in Computer Science for professional specialization, and a bachelor degree in any scientific field, engineers and architects for research specialization. Specialised technicians, architects, engineers and first-cycle undergraduate students with 180 credit degrees (technical studies being the most appropriate background) may also apply, in agreement with the requirements of article 16 and the fourth additional provision of R.D. 1393/2007 of October 29.

The admission criteria are, firstly, the bachelor degree profile and secondly, the average marks of the degree for accessing to the Master.

To apply for admission in the Master Degree in Information Technology, students must complete a pre-registration form and hand it personally or submit it electronically to the appropriate staff member at the postgraduate administrative services of the Polytechnic School. Students holding degrees from universities other than the UIB must include in their application-authenticated photocopies of the relevant documents concerning their degree as well as an academic certification from the University issuing that degree. If the number of interested students exceeds the numerus clausus, the Academic Committee shall establish a list of alternates, in order of merit, to cover the possibility of waiver in tuition fee by some of those selected in the first instance.

Admission of students in the second semester will be considered by the Academic Committee in each case and will proceed according to the regulations of the university. The decision on admission will be subjected to at least the following criteria:

  1. the study must have places available,
  2. is not possible to admit students in subjects that already have a current semester, unless an acknowledgment of previous studies compensates for this delay.

Academic and Professional Objectives

The aim of the Master in Information Technology is that students acquire advanced training, specialist and multidisciplinary, focused to the various fields of information technology. In the professional specialization learning how to use and apply in companies, especially in the tourism sector. In the research specialization the aim is to train students in technology and innovative techniques, both theoretical and experimental, which allow a high degree of professional specialization.

Scientific and technological changes are usual in information technology. Therefore the relationship between development and research is clear. For this reason we propose contents that can be addressed from a professional or research specialization. On the one hand, professionals are able to innovate in business. On the other hand, researchers can apply their theories to practical problems. In fact, the faculty of the Master belong to consolidate research groups involved in research projects, both national and international, and they have contracts or agreements with companies. In addition, a major objective of the Master is to promote innovation in the technology sector of the Balearic Islands by training qualified personnel capable of creating new technology-based companies related to tourism.

Access to other professional courses and pathways

Students holding an official Master‘s degree in Information Technologies are eligible for admission to third cycle studies leading to the PhD degree by the University of the Balearic Islands in Computer Science and in Mathematics .
