Students with Overseas Qualifications
This section is aimed at students with overseas qualifications who would like to take official postgraduate studies (Master or PhD) at the UIB. Such students are not required to have their degrees officially recognised by the Spanish education authorities. Access to a programme shall in no way imply recognition of the prior degree held by the interested party, or its recognition for any other purposes than to access master's degree studies. Students with overseas degrees recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education will follow the pre-registration process undertaken by students with Spanish degrees.
If you are interested in having your overseas qualification (bachelor or master) officially recognised by the Spanish education authorities, please contact the Spanish Ministry of Universities.
If you are interested in having your overseas PhD qualification officially recognised in Spain, please visit the 'Equivalence Statement' section on the UIB Doctoral School website.

How long does a university master's programme run?
An official master's programme at the UIB may have between 60 and 120 ECTS credits.
A European credit or ECTS represents 25 hours of student work.
The total workload for a full-time student for one academic year has been set at 60 ECTS (1,500 hours).
In this vein, a 60-credit master's programme will last one year. If, the master's programme is 120 credits, it will last two years.
In what language are the classes taught?
The teaching language of subjects is set out in the 'Subjects' section in each master's factsheet.
If there is any doubt as to the subject teaching languages, please check with the master's academic management.
How much are the course fees for a university master's programme?
Master's course fees are set every year by the Decree governing public fees for academic and administrative services on current official programmes at the UIB.
In order to calculate course fees, you need to multiply the number of registered credits by the price per credit for that programme, set out in said Decree.
Overseas students over the age of 18 who are not residents in Spain, except for nationals from European Union member states and from countries where the EU system applies without prejudice to the principle of reciprocity, need to add a percentage surcharge to the resulting fee amount, which is also set out in the Fees Decree.
Finally, administrative charges must be added to the amount, which are also set out in the Fees Decree and tend to be between 50 and 65 euro.
Example for the "Master's degree in X"
1. The price per ECTS credit is 29,09 euro for the first registration*. The Master's programme has a total of 60 ECTS credits.
60 ECTS x 29,09 = 1.745,4 euro
2. Overseas students over the age of 18 who are not residents in Spain, except for nationals from European Union member states and from countries where the EU system applies without prejudice to the principle of reciprocity, must pay the aforementioned public fees for academic services with an additional 30% surcharge.
1.755,4 + 30% = 2.269,02 euro
3. Administrative fees
- Setting up and maintaining students' academic record: 35,07 euro.
- Issuing the university ID card: 11,53 euro.
- Medical cover for students over the age of 28 in the event of school-related accidents. 14 euro.
2.269,02 + 60,6 = 2.329,62 euros
For two-year master's programmes:
- The fees for the 60 credits + the amount for the other fees are paid the first year.
- The fees for the remaining credits + the amount for the other fees are paid the second year.
How do I get a visa?
The UIB does not process student visas since this corresponds to Spanish Embassies and Consulates in students' home countries. Students must contact the embassy or consulate to verify the procedures they need to follow to obtain a visa for their study period.
Students accepted on a UIB postgraduate course who require an official admission letter in order to apply for their student visa may request one via e-mail (postgrauuib.es). They need to set out what information is required to appear on the admission letter in their e-mail.
